The Whisky

The Glenlivet 18 Year Old is one of the most highly awarded expressions in the world of Scotch, celebrated for its incredible balance and sophisticated maturity. This Speyside classic is matured for 18 years in a masterfully curated selection of casks, primarily First and Second-Fill American Oak (for tropical fruitiness and vanilla) and Ex-Sherry Oak (for spicy complexity). Bottled at 40.0% ABV, it represents the “Batch Reserve” style—a smooth, elegant, and multi-layered dram that bridges the gap between the distillery’s light, floral spirit and the deep, resonant influence of long-term aging.

Our Tasting Notes

The nose is elegant, complex, and deeply inviting, leading with aromas of ripe citrus, winter spice, and dried apricots, all wrapped in a layer of sweet oak and vanilla. On the palate, the whisky is rich and full-bodied, delivering waves of honeyed fruit, orange marmalade, and nutmeg, followed by notes of toffee and a touch of dark chocolate. The texture is silky and indulgent. The finish is long and lingering, concluding with a mellow, warming spice and a final, sophisticated hint of sweet almond and dry oak tannins.

The Master Distiller

The consistency and quality of this 18-year-old expression have long been the responsibility of Alan Winchester, The Glenlivet’s Master Distiller. His approach focuses on “deftly navigating” the maturation process to ensure that the spirit’s natural Speyside elegance is enhanced by the wood, not masked by it. By precisely balancing the spice from the European sherry oak with the creamy sweetness of the American bourbon casks, the blending team has created a benchmark single malt that remains a definitive example of the Speyside style.

The Distillery

The Glenlivet Distillery was the first legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, established in 1824 by George Smith. Known as “the single malt that started it all,” it has survived world wars and prohibition to become one of the global giants of the whisky world. Located in a remote valley in Speyside, the distillery benefits from the mineral-rich water of Josie’s Well and its unique, lantern-shaped copper pot stills, which produce a light, fruity, and highly refined spirit that has set the standard for quality for over two centuries.
